HP considering sale of webOS to Oracle

HP has teamed up with Bank of America Merrill Lynch to evaluate the possibility of selling its webOS smartphone and tablet platform to another company. HP acquired the platform when it purchased Palm last year, but effectively killed it a year later.
The sale of the webOS assets to a technology company could net it "hundreds of millions" of dollars, which would still likely fall far short of the $1.2 billion price that it paid for the company in 2010. Oracle could be one of the companies interested in webOS, which would come with a significant portfolio of patents.
