Apple Unveils New iPad
Following months of speculation surrounding Apple’s next big product launch, the company announced on Wednesday that it will be releasing a new 4G LTE iPad featuring a 9.7- inch retina display. The company made the big reveal on stage at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts — home of Apple’s first two iPad launches. The new iPad — which starts at $499 — has a retina display, 5 megapixel camera (with the same optics sensor from the iPhone 4S) and 1080p video recording.
To the best of my knowledge, it is obvious that it has not been long from the previous release of the Apple iPad series, so I wonder why they want us to spend so much money on this stuff.

Its actually called iPad HD, or simply the New iPad. Apple has deliberately ignored the numbering this time. Because new users who want to buy the iPad won't want to start with 3, they wanna start anew, hence the name. @Efemena if we're to follow your statement then the iPhone 4S should've been called iPhone 5 because it was the fifth iPhone

My point is, Apple's gimmick is too much. Why not just make it easy to recognise. "The New Ipad" sounds like a phrase rather than a product name. You said new users who want to buy the Ipad wouldn't want to start with 3, are you serious? Did numbering the iphone stop new users from buying it? Iphone has 3 and 4. Apple just likes gimmicks and tries too hard to be different

Maybe they simply think the '3' number isn't appropriate. Possibly the new device does not merit being called iPad 3. Remembering the iPhone 4s for instance, it was nothing more than the iPhone 4 with better processor, an 8mp camera and the plaything called Siri. Just like i believe that iPhone 5 will soon be unveiled, maybe the true iPad 3 would also come later...Apple doesnt need to struggle to stay different, they're unique. The things they do with relative ease, a competitor can't try it and get away with it, thats enough to show that they're different. ...not to even mention having the sharpest mobile display on the planet...

You still do not understand. Will next year's Ipad also be called "the new ipad"? or the new ipad 2? If all new ipads are called the new ipad, how will you differentiate them?
